"x, y, width, height, startAngle, arcAngle" in the statement:

   public abstract void fillArc (int x, int y, int width, int height, int startAngle, int arcAngle)

are the names of the parameters of the fillArc() method. When a method has parameters, it requires input to run---one input value for each parameter. The data type that precedes each parameter name, tells you the required data type of the input. For example,

   fillArc(  int x, ... ) ;

means that the first input must be an integer.

Below is an example of a legal call to the fillArc() method. In a legal call, every parameter is given a value of the proper data type.

   page.fillArc(  150, 200, 300, 400, 50, 40) ;

In this example, "page" is the name of the Graphics object whose fillArc() method is being called, and 150 is the value given to the first parameter (i.e., the parameter named x), 200 is the value given to the second parameter (i.e., the parameter named y), 300 is the value given to the third parameter (i.e., the parameter named width), and so on.

The means of the parameters (i.e., what the values stored in those memory locations represent) are defined in the documentation for each method. For example, the means of the fillArc() parameters are as follows:

x the x coordinate of the upper-left corner of the arc to be filled.
y the y coordinate of the upper-left corner of the arc to be filled.
width the width of the arc to be filled.
height the height of the arc to be filled.
startAngle the beginning angle.
arcAngle the angular extent of the arc, relative to the start angle.
