Spring 2009 CSCI 379.002 Homework

Homeworks are short (half-page) assignments that are turned in at class or emailed to the class instructor.

Homework 1 -- Due 21 January

Answer the following three questions:

  1. If this class sometimes must end a bit early on Monday, how would you like to make up the time? Some possible options would be (a) running a little later on Wednesday, (b) meeting on Friday at 2:45, (c) meeting on Saturday at 8:00 am. You may have other ideas.
  2. What is your experience, if any, participating in "virtual worlds"? This would include multiplayer on-line games.
  3. Have you ever written a computer program?
  4. What would you like to study in this course?

Homework 2 -- Due 28 January

Download Alice 2.0 and try out at least two of the tutorials. Write a few sentences about your experience and what you think you'd learn by "playing" more with Alice.

Homework 3 -- Due 4 February

Start up Scrath or Etoys and type in the jumping cat program seen in class. Then send a couple of sentences in email to the instructor proclaiming your success. Be sure to include CSCI 379 in the subject line of your message.

Homework 4 -- Due 18 February

Download Blender and try to do one of the tutorial examples or just anything that puts something interesting on the screen.

Turn in a screen shot of your effort -- in class or via email.

Homework 5 -- Due ?? April

"Register" yourself in the recent (still Beta) virtual world Just Leap In.
