# Spring 2002 ENGR 212 / CSCI 311 Homework 4

This assignment is due Friday, 15 February.

## Problem 1

Simplify the following Boolean functions using Karnaugh maps.
List the Boolean functions in Sum-of-Products form after
you have constructued your map.

- F(
`a`, `b`, `c`) = `a` `b` + `a` `b`' `c` + `c`'
- F(
`w`, `x`, `y`, `z`) = `w` `x`' + `x` `y` `z` + `w` `x` `y`' `z` + `x`' `y`' `z`'
- F(
`a`, `b`, `c`, `d`) = Σ(0, 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 14)

## Problem 2

Show the prime implicants, the distinguished 1-cells, and the essential
prime implicants in the following two Boolean functions.

- F(
`a`, `b`, `c`, `d`) = Σ(0, 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15)
- F(
`a`, `b`, `c`, `d`) = Σ(0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14)
