BEAR HUNTERS CONVICTED
Three men were found guilty on July 14 for participating in a hunt and bear-bait site in the
Coleman Boundary and Stoney Fork areas of Buncombe county in Pisgah National Forest.
U.S. Magistrate Max O. Cogburn convicted Charles E. Hensley of hunting black bear over
bait. Hensley lost his hunting privileges for 1 year, was banned from the western North Carolina
national forests for 2 years, and placed on a 2-year probation.
Two co-defendants, Hoyte N. Dillingham and Davie D. Anderson, pled guilty to two lesser
offenses linked with the baiting (littering) with the stipulation that Dillingham is prohibited from
hunting in Western North Carolina national forests for 2 years and Anderson is probibited for 1
year.
Hensley, Dillingham and Anderson were fined $1,000 each for the offenses.
The U.S. Forest Service and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission
conducted the investigation.
