The Cliffside Reservoir area is located in Macon County, west of Highlands.  This area is located between Franklin and Highlands and is easily accessible by car.  There are fishing opportunities, hiking trails, camping areas, and a scenic waterfall.  Many people enjoy the hatchery supported trout fishing in Cliffside Lake. (Note: the lake is closed to fishing during March.)

Access: Take US 64 northwest from Highlands for 4 miles, turn right (north) on Forest Service Road 57 for 2 miles.  There are signs for direction into the area.

Camping:  The Vanhook Glade Campground is located 4.3 miles west of Highlands on US 64.  There are 20 family camping units, each equip with a parking spur, fire ring, table and space for a tent.  Most of the parking spurs will only accommodate small campers and trailers.  Flush toilets are located on site.  Group use is prohibited and stay is limited to 14 days to prevent over-use.  Cliffside reservoir facilities are available to Vanhook campers at no additional charge.  Campsites are first come first serve offered at a fee per site/ per night.

Primitive camping is allowed on forest service lands throughout the Cliffside area except where “no camping” signs are posted.

Comments:  This area is popular for families with children due to the accessibility of the lake for fishing.
