| The President's FY 2007 Proposed Budget for the Forest Service includes a
legislative proposal that would reauthorize the Secure Rural Schools and
Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 to allow payments under the Act to
continue for an additional five years. To provide a funding basis for an
extension of the Secure Rural Schools Act, the President's proposal authorizes
the sale of certain parcels of National Forest System Lands. For more
information about this legislative proposal, please visit the
USDA Forest Service Washington Office web site. A detailed national
list of potential parcels that could be sold under this proposal as well as an
interactive map displaying these tracts is available at
http://www.fs.fed.us/land/staff/rural_schools.shtml. The Forest
Service is currently seeking public comments on this legislative proposal.
