CSCI / MMAS 179

This course will introduce students to the 3D design and modeling of physical systems. The material presented will be a synergistic combination of computer graphics, engineering and information technology. Students will create 3D models to augment "Spin", a rotational physics exhibit at the Health Adventure which includes imaginative working machines created from an array of everyday objects. Students will display their machines via three dimensional interactive web sites, simulations and animations. This is a "hands-on" course: all concepts will be introduced in an interactive lab/lecture environment where the lab refers both to the Computer Science computer lab and to the Engineering fabrication lab.

The class is team taught by Rebecca Bruce (RBH 024, Office Hours MW: 1:00-2:00; TR: 9:00-10:00) and Susan Reiser (RBH 219, Office Hours M: 10:45-11:45, TR 9:00-10:00).

This class is a freshman colloquium and is part of UNC Asheville’s Integrated Liberal Studies curriculum. As such this course is classified as a writing intensive course.
